Forest Raised Pork

About our pork…..

Forest raised hogs have been a wonderful addition to our farm.  They are a highly intelligent animal, each having their own distinct personality and are a real joy to be around.  We’re convinced that happy hogs make for healthier, better tasting meat and the stress-free environment we provide them creates just that.  They get to live outdoors, root in the dirt, run and play, sleep beneath the shade of a tree and simply enjoy being a hog.

Our system begins with weaned piglets that have never been given any antibiotics, vaccinations, medications or growth stimulants.  These hogs are then raised in our chemical free forest lands where they will obtain at least 25-35% of their diet from grazing and foraging.  Hogs actually graze very well and are true omnivores, and this grazing attribute contributes to the wonderful flavor and lean qualities of the meat.  In the forest our pigs find grape vines, tree leaves, brambles, various nuts, tree roots, grasses, clovers, forbes and more.  The balance of their diet is chemical free and GMO free grains (no genetically modified grains here!).  The pigs are handled humanely and get to act like a real hog, outdoors in the sunshine, fresh air and dirt (they really, really love the dirt part).  And per our standard, we never administer to them any antibiotics or vaccinations unless it is a life saving measure.

This effort creates an excellent tasting meat that is vastly superior to hogs raised in confinement and sold at the supermarket.  You can purchase our pork by the cut at any of the local farmers markets we attend, or at our farm (by appointment).  We also offer our customers the opportunity to purchase by the half or whole sides by pre-order.

*Please note that while some individual components of our farming operation are certified organic, our finished products are not USDA certified organic.
